The Medical Billing Specialist role demands an experienced and dynamic professional with a deep understanding of efficient claim processing, reimbursement optimization, and denial management. Ensuring accuracy and compliance with all relevant regulations is crucial in this position, as it directly impacts our ability to provide essential services to children in need.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Three (3) years in the healthcare industry
Education Requirements
Preferred: Associate degree
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Certifications
Medical billing and coding
Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist
DUTIES
Expertise in claim processes, reimbursement, and denial management.
Skilled in resolving denials, rejections, and discrepancies, with the ability to maximize reimbursement through appeals when necessary.
Implement strategies for thorough claim review to minimize rejections before submission.
Verify patient, insurance, billing, and claim submission information for accuracy.
Monitor trends in payer underpayments, coding issues, and denials.
Investigate missing payments and secure necessary documents for posting.
Establish and maintain timely billing procedures and workflows.
Must be dedicated to the mission of Southmountain Children and Family Services and possess a deep sense of empathy for the children and families we serve.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Thorough understanding of compliance with state and federal laws (including HIPAA) regarding healthcare billing and coding is required.
Must be knowledgeable of North Carolina medical billing rules and regulations.
Expertise in Medicaid and other insurance collections, coding, and denials management.
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Read and interpret insurance explanations of benefits (EOBs) with a high level of accuracy.
Ability to analyze and resolve issues while identifying trends through critical thinking.
Capable of working well with others and fostering a team-oriented environment.
Utilize strong time management skills to handle daily tasks and meet production and quality metrics.
